I know it's a subjective question based on one's opinion, but I was thinking what makes some countries better (in terms of economies, government, lifestyle) than others and I'm wondering if size does matter ;) Large countries have more resources to use to fuel their economies, more land to grow their population and use in case of warfare, and more cultural and political influence on the world stage. Small countries (unless you're Britain, Japan, Australia or some other large island) have to accommodate and balance their large neighbors; always being in the shadow of giants and having to work twice or three times harder to reach the same level of prosperity their neighbors have. To me it seems pointless for a small country to even bother competing on the world stage. Their economies are irrelevant and have no choice but to break into and depend on larger markets for their own survival. Yeah large countries have their problems but at least their survival isn't based upon what happens to their neighbors (Greece anyone?). So what do you think? Does size really matter? Would you rather live in a small, irrelevant country (Luxembourg, Korea, Taiwan, Kuwait, Singapore, etc.) or a country that matters in the world (America, China, Russia, Brazil, etc.)... Read More »
