PART 2, SHORT INTRO: Visit the Southern Cross-Island Highway memorial Shrine at Heaven's village, and also hike from Heaven's village ( Not really a village ) up to Heaven's pond. Heaven's Pond is a short walk up-hill from Heaven's village on the Southern Cross-Island Highway. The pond is also next to the old Mt. Guan historical trail. The pond is an emerld-like colour and is full of Carp ( Gold-fish ) and turtles. ADDIONAL: The Southern Cross-Island Highway from Meiyakou ( Yushan visitors Center ) to Heaven's village is closed to the general public. From Heaven's village to Kaigu ( Sacred Tree ), there are some major landslides, and the road ends about 2km farther along! There are many landslides between this area and the Yakou Tunnel. This section of the Highway was badly damaged by Typhoon Morakot, 2009 08 08, and, it may not be re-opened to general traffic until later next year 2011, depending on prevailing damage. Some landslides in this area are servere, and each time heavy rain arrives, these landslides grow in size thus covering over all previous attempts to repair the Highway beneath them. INTRO TO HIGHWAY 20: The Southern Cross-Island Highway ( Nan-heng-gong-lu 南橫公路) or Highway No. 20, links Tainan City, in Taiwan's Southwest, with Taitung, in Taiwan's East.
